Opened in 1968 when Grenoble hosted the Winter Olympics and inaugurated by André Malraux, the MC2: Grenoble belongs to flagship institutions of the cultural decentralization. In 2004, it became the MC2 and awarded the label of “Scène nationale”. The MC2: Grenoble is fully equipped with a complex of three playhouses in one, one auditorium and associated rehearsal studios which is unparalleled in France.
The MC2 purpose is mainly to assert itself as a key structure dedicated to artistic creation, production and diffusion with a national and international scope and to promote contemporary art as well. This unique type of venue allows the MC2 to be opened to all disciplines devoted to living art, regarding production and diffusion by providing spaces made available for artists and cultural activities. The residency of the Centre chorégraphique national de Grenoble directed by Jean-Claude Gallotta and the association with Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble headed by Marc Minkowski ensure a permanent artistic presence and creation within the MC2.
