The Lavalette fountain, located in the place Grenette, was was erected under the administration of the marquis de la Valette, mayor of Grenoble and was the forerunner of a canal network linking the city’s fountains. The sculptor Sappey and the smelter Crozatier worked together to create the work, decorated with four cherubs riding four dolphins, the symbol of the Dauphiné. The fountain is built of Sassenage stone.
