Louis XII is said to have dubbed the Grésivaudan valley the "most beautiful garden in France". Alpine peaks, verdant plains, dizzying limestone cliffs and a rich industrial past are the assets of this immense glacial valley.
From Gières, take the D524 towards Uriage-les-Bains.
In the village center, turn left towards St-Martin-d'Uriage, le Pinet-d'Uriage, Revel, St-Jean-le-Vieux, la Croix de Revolat, St-Mury- Monteymond, le col des Mouilles, la Boutière, le col des Ayes, Theys, le col du Barioz, St-Pierre-d'Allevard.
Turn left on the D525 to Morêtel-de-Mailles, Goncelin, Tencin, then return directly to Gières on the D523 via Froges, Villard-Bonnot and Domène.
To shorten the itinerary, you can reach Gières in the valley from Revel, Saint-Jean-le-Vieux, Saint-Mury Monteymond, Les Adrets, Theys and Gières.
Alternatively, from Goncelin, take the small local roads in the Grésivaudan valley towards Grenoble and Gières.
