Snow-covered slopes 30 minutes from the city centre
Snow-covered slopes are one of Grenoble’s assets. If you like winter sports, we have dozens of resorts all around the Grenoble area. These resorts vary in size and style, so all you have to do is choose the one that suits you best and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
Grenoble Alpes is a winter postcard to be admired with its breathtaking views, dizzying slopes and chairlifts through the fir trees. And if the snow runs out, don’t worry, the resorts have a range of activities for fun and relaxation without ski boots.
Easy access, mountains within skiing distance
Of all the nearby resorts, Col de Porte is without a doubt the one most dear to the hearts of Grenoble residents. As part of the Grenoble Alpes metropolitan area, it is also one of the gateways to the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park.
It takes just thirty minutes to get to the foot of the slopes, either by car or by public transport. By bus, take ligne 62 from the city centre (Notre-Dame Museum stop) and you’ll be in the middle of the Chartreuse fir trees in no time. If you choose this option, be aware that not all the shuttle buses can take your skis and snowboards, particularly if there are roadworks on the route.
If you don’t have equipment, there are several hire shops in the resort. We were able to test the friendliness and expertise of two locations, Ski Service and Chartreuse Aventure . If you're looking for quality equipment, we can wholeheartedly recommend them! For Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, head Cross-Country Skiing Centre for equipment and useful advice.
Slopes for everyone
The people of Grenoble are so attached to Col de Porte. The people of Grenoble are so attached to Col de Porte. This is often because it’s the first resort for youngsters, the one where you learn to snowplough and experience your first falls. So, if you’re a beginner, don’t worry here! From the Children’s Conveyor to the Pinéa ski tow, the slopes are easy and perfect for learning the principles of pole planting and balance for snowboarding at your leisure.
In winter, you can enjoy a wide range of activities. Whetherdownhill skiing ou Nordic skiing , you can enjoy the snow-covered slopes while gazing at the Chartreuse peaks. For snowboarding, take advantage of the fun facilities at the snow park and try your hand at the most aerial acrobatics. The children's (and the bigger kids) favourite activity is tobogganing, which is a big hit every winter. And let’s not forget biathlon, which you can try out with the École de Porte for example.
If you prefer to get out and about, try your hand at ski touring or try snowshoes on one of the routes on offer.
As you head towards Chamechaude or Charmant Som, the landscapes open up before your very eyes, encouraging you to completely switch off.
You can also stay at both establishments, with rooms at the Cartusia and apartments at Les 3 Sommets. They also have a wellbeing area, with sauna and jacuzzi, ideal after a day's skiing.
Finally, before heading back down the mountain, don't forget to stop for a few minutes in front of Chartreuse.
Breathe in, breathe out... That’s the magic of Col de Porte, a small resort that knows how to make you forget the world around you for a few hours.
