The Maison des Alpages is located in the heart of the village of Besse. It is an important, local tourist centre that puts on a number of exhibitions and events throughout the year, including entertaining exhibitions that depict changes in agropastoralism in Oisans, the work of shepherds, transhumance, pastureland and the landscape of the Ferrand Valley.

La Maison Départementale des Alpages est implantée à Besse en Oisans, commune qui possède le plus important alpage du département : le plateau d’Emparis, qui s’étale sur 2 900 hectares. Ces alpages, de par leur histoire, leur évolution et le fait qu’ils soient toujours en activité, forment un terrain propice à la mise en relation des acteurs de ce pastoralisme avec les différents publics.
