The Charvet hill, a fabulous viewpoint

Equipment : Pedestrian sports, Hiking itinerary

Almost all of this hike is done in the shade of the beech trees whose leaves cover the ground and, with the limestone rocks and the ruins of old stone houses, give all its charm to this trip in the forest of Chartreuse

From Mont-Saint-Martin (alt. 740 m), go up the road for 100 m towards Collavière. On this hike, you will follow yellow markings. In Collavière (alt. 745 m), continue on the right in the direction of the day-care center and Namière, the "Chemin des Combes", always on the asphalt. After two bends in the road, continue on it until you reach a barrier. Then turn right on the " chemin de Manière ", in the direction of Les Combes by the " boucle du Sabot ". Just after the first house of the hamlet of Manière, turn left to follow the track, the " boucle du Sabot ", above this first house. Stay on the big track that rises very peacefully. It makes a sharp left turn and continues north. Don't take the thematic trail that goes downhill on the left in the straightaway, but keep following the yellow markings straight ahead. When you reach the meadows, do not follow the direction of the Dauphins millstone, but the trail that goes slightly downhill on the left. Another 100 m and you arrive at the crossroads Les Combes (alt. 920 m). Then turn right towards the Charvet hill, noted at 700 m and 25 minutes. After a nice climb, you arrive at the côte Charvet (alt. 1 050 m), the high point of your hike.
Turn left towards Mont-Saint-Martin via Spain, to pass at the foot of the côte Charvet (alt. 975 m), where you continue to the right. At the next crossroads, on Spain (alt. 910 m), turn left towards Collavière.
You quickly lose altitude and, by cemented laces, you reach the asphalt of the road. You just have to turn left to find Collavière, then right, to come back to the entrance of Mont-Saint-Martin.

Variation: You can couple this hike with the one that starts from Fontanil to reach Mont-Saint-Martin. It is then 12,8 km that you will walk, for a difference in height of 850 m. (See topo "From Fontanil to Mont-Saint-Martin").
